Bioactive Compounds and Cancer (Nutrition and Health)

Bioactive Compounds and Cancer (Nutrition and Health) by John A. Milner (Editor), Donato F. Romagnolo (Editor)

Because of the wealth of new information generated by the scientific community during the last decade on the role of nutrition on cancer risk, this book provides a forum for presentation and discussion of recent scientific data and highlights a set of dietary recommendations. Bioactive Compounds and Cancer presents chapters that highlight laboratory and clinical findings on how selected nutrients function as signaling molecules and, as such, influence cellular behavior and cancer predisposition. This important compendium focuses on understanding the role of nutrition in cancer biology, the molecular action of bioactive food components and xenobiotics on cancer risk, the role of dietary components in cancer prevention and/or treatment, and nutrition education with the most up to date dietary recommendations that may reduce cancer risk. This volume will be of interest to specialized health professionals, clinicians, nurses, basic and clinical researchers, graduate students, and health officials of public and private organizations.

Handbook of Clinical Nutrition and Aging

Handbook of Clinical Nutrition and Aging (Nutrition and Health) by Connie W. Bales (Editor), Christine S. Ritchie (Editor).

As the older adult population continues to grow, so will the prevalence and incidence of age-related disorders. In Handbook of Clinical Nutrition and Aging, Second Edition, the editors and contributors (a panel of recognized academic nutritionists, geriatricians, clinicians and scientists) have thoroughly updated and revised their widely acclaimed first edition with fresh perspectives and the latest scientific and clinical developments in age-associated disease. New chapters tackle ecological perspectives on adult eating behavior, and behavioral theories applied to nutritional therapies in aging, while topics such as Sarcopenia and Cachexia are discussed in greater detail. The authors outline the physiological basis for each disorder, provide the latest information about the interaction of nutrition with these conditions, and review the potential routes and mechanisms for clinical intervention.

Timely and authoritative, Handbook of Clinical Nutrition and Aging, Second Edition is a unique, comprehensive resource and will prove a valuable guide to all nutritionists, physicians, nurses, dietitians, and speech-language and occupational therapists who provide care for the rapidly expanding aging population.

Nutrition and Physical Degeneration by Weston A. Price

New Expanded 8th edition with new photos and text

An epic study demonstrating the importance of whole food nutrition, and the degeneration and destruction that comes from a diet of processed foods.

For nearly 10 years, Weston Price and his wife traveled around the world in search of the secret to health. Instead of looking at people afflicted with disease symptoms, this highly-respected dentist and dental researcher chose to focus on healthy individuals, and challenged himself to understand how they achieved such amazing health. Dr. Price traveled to hundreds of cities in a total of 14 different countries in his search to find healthy people. He investigated some of the most remote areas in the world. He observed perfect dental arches, minimal tooth decay, high immunity to tuberculosis and overall excellent health in those groups of people who ate their indigenous foods. He found when these people were introduced to modernized foods, such as white flour, white sugar, refined vegetable oils and canned goods, signs of degeneration quickly became quite evident. Dental caries, deformed jaw structures, crooked teeth, arthritis and a low immunity to tuberculosis became rampant amongst them. Dr. Price documented this ancestral wisdom including hundreds of photos in his book, Nutrition and Physical Degeneration.

Review Nutrition and Physical Degeneration

Modern nutrition research is a mess. As a scientist who's interested in health research, I find the field to be amazingly full of bias and unscientific thinking. It's driven more by popular consensus than logic.

"Nutrition and Physical Degeneration" slices through modern nutrition BS with devastatingly simple logic: Price found the healthiest cultures in the world, and recorded what they were doing. It's as simple as that.

For those who are concerned with the credibility of the book, I'll mention that it's very consistent with what anthropologists and field physicians were saying at the time. Price also published some of his findings in respected peer-reviewed journals like JAMA and JADA during his lifetime. His genius was in consolidating information from many different cultures and examining what they had in common. Modern Western food habits have left a trail of destruction throughout the world, and it was painfully obvious to anyone observing a transition from traditional foods to industrially processed Western foods.

Price and other groups of researchers have shown that modern degenerative disease is caused by a modern diet, yet mainstream nutrition research continues to fumble around in the dark. These days, researchers conduct studies that compare the sick to the sicker and confuse correlation with causation. This information then gets conveyed to us by a media that is completely unscientific and more concerned with creating a big story than conveying sound information. Leave them all in the dust and learn how to be truly healthy by reading the most important and most overlooked piece of health research ever published.
